Two days later – Capitol Skyline Hotel, Washington D.C. – 9:00
“At ease gentlemen,” said Simon as he gaze on the four Hunters.
“Did Iran do something while we’re out, Mr. President?” asked Lead.
“Or Langley’s got another problem?” asked Rojas.
“Actually,” Simon scratches his head, “I do have another problem.” Simon smirked.
“Did your daughter do that again?” Happy asked.
“No but,” Simon stopped and looks at Happy’s legs, “Shouldn’t you be resting for now?”
“Uhm, yes Sir but I thought it’s not bad if I walk this a little,” said Happy, “It’s just a meeting. And uhm,” he suddenly looks sad, “I would miss these guys a lot.”
“Going anywhere?” said Simon.
“Family, Sir,” said Happy, “I just got lucky this is the only thing I got. I’m not gonna bet on another one. And I guess I made enough friends,” he laughed.
“You did,” said Rojas.
“Rojas doesn’t count,” Happy laughs, “But you know, this is probably the best time in my military career where I can finally call it a day. Rest up. Enjoy other things life has to offer. Of course that includes pension.” They all laugh.
“I can’t wait on mine,” said Lead, “But I’m afraid I have to deal with this these two hard headed bastards a little more. At least until we take down Al Bashir, I guess.”
“Well, you’ve done so much for us Mr. Goodman,” said Simon, “You all did. I wanted to speak to you personally for this second time just to have this little chat,” Simon looks at the four smiling, “Because I’m afraid we won’t have this opportunity to talk tomorrow morning in the White House. You know, a little ceremony to thank you.”
“And if you ask me I think this is better,” said Happy, “Even after your term, Sir, we could hang out like these.” He laughs.
“That’s a great idea you got there,” Simon nods while smiling, “And I also did this because I wanted to talk to this guy personally.” He points at Alex.
“Sir?” Alex replies a little terrified.
“Uhh, should we leave you two alone for a minute sir?” asked Lead.
“Yes, that’d help,” said Simon. Rojas and Lead help Happy to walk out the room.
As soon as the three close the door behind them Alex immediately talk.
“I – I’m sorry about your daughter, Mr. President,” said Alex while trying to read Simon’s mood, “I know I should’ve-”
“You should’ve asked for her number,” Simon smirked, “You know, this could’ve gone down a very different direction. But you got her back here and that’s all I wanted. I really don’t know how to thank you further.”
“No, Sir you don’t have to,” Alex said, “That’s our job.”
“And now I’m afraid you have another,” said Simon directly at Alex’s eyes, “Sammy can be a little hard headed sometimes. I admit it is my fault. After my wife died in sickness, Sammy needs another person to talk to. That’s where I failed her, and I still am. I can’t also wait for my retirement,” Simon smiled, “I don’t know, but I’ll try to make up for my shortcomings with her. Whether she appreciates it or not because I’m just too late. I just wished I should’ve been there for her in the first place,” Simon taps Alex’s shoulder, “You know what to do Alex.”
Later after the meeting with the President, Alex calls his mother.
“Mom?” Alex said.
“Alex?” Dorothy said, “You’re going out of the country again? I thought they’ll be letting you enjoy your last days on the break. And how’s your friend Happy?”
“Happy’s good, mom,” said Alex, “And no we’re not going out again. Not at least until the end of the break.”
“We’ll that’s great,” said Dorothy, “So you’ll be heading back here?” she sounds excited.
“I’m gonna visit someone here first, but,” words of Simon is still lingering on Alex’s mind, “But I’m up for a dinner tonight, I guess.”
“Really?” said Dorothy surprised but excited. She then gets a little serious, “Alex, can your-”
“Yes mom,” Alex immediately answered, “of course with dad. I – I should’ve let him make it up for me.”
Washington D.C. – 11:04
Alex exits a cab and heads inside a foster home. He immediately saw Samantha talking to someone. He stops from a distance and let them finish talking. Samantha looks at Alex and approaches him.
“I thought you wouldn’t show up,” said Samantha.
“I’m sorry I’m a little late,” said Alex, “Was Nathan okay?” he asked as they walk out the building.
“Kind of. Yeah, I guess,” Samantha sighs looking back, “I’m gonna miss him so much.”
“Anybody told you where the rest of his family could be?” asked Alex.
“You’re friend in Pennsylvania helped me out,” said Samantha.
“Director Smith?” Alex asked, “What did they found out?”
“Turns out his parents are both in a correctional facility in West Virginia,” said Samantha, “that’s for selling their children.”
“That’s-” Alex felt bad for Nathan.
“Actually I’m thinking,” Samantha said, “I want to help Nathan meet his brothers and sisters again.”
“That’s great,” said Alex.
They both stop by the side of Samantha’s car with her driver waiting inside.
“This is a new car, I guess,” Alex grins.
“Yeah,” Samantha laughs. She knocks on the window. Her driver rolls it down, “Bill, you can go back home for now. We’ll just have a little walk.”
“Right,” agreed Bill, “Be safe there ma’am,” he said as he nods on Alex.
Alex immediately noticed something, “Is this?” said Alex as he looks around looking for someone, “Is this another of your, you know?”
“No dummy,” Samantha laughs, “Dad agreed there won’t be no bodyguards following me just for now.”
“Hmm,” Alex nods, “How about a dinner tonight at my house?” He asked Samantha as they start their walk.
“You haven’t even asked for my number yet,” said Samantha, “Unbelievable.” They both laugh.
Two days after the break ends – Langley, Virginia – 6:15
Alex, Rojas, and Lead is waiting in a meeting room. Overlord steps in with another guy. Alex seems to be a little familiar with the guy’s face.
“Hunters,” said Overlord, “As you can see I have with me your new comrade.”
“What’s up guys,” said the guy ecstatically while gazing at the three, “Oohh, this is really cool.”
“New guy, this isn’t 'The Avengers' meet and greet,” said Rojas, “Your excitement's way too much.”
“This new guy even looks older than Alex,” said Lead.
Alex snapped. He finally remembers the guy, “Don’t tell me you’re the 2016 Andrews?”
“Yeah,” said the guy, “You remembered the whole 'wall hack' thing?” He laughs in excitement.
“You know this guy?” asked Rojas in disbelief.
“Ugh,” Alex said in disappointment.
“You should because he’s with you in the Task Force Athena,” said Overlord.
“How come I didn’t sense his annoying energy back then?” said Rojas in. Andrews laughs.
Two weeks later – Bagram Air Base, Bagram, Afghanistan – 13:02
The four recon units receive a briefing call from Overlord.
“Hunters listen up,” said Overlord, “Many things have happened since after your success in Task Force Athena weeks ago. That includes the Sinaloan Cartel's outrage from killing the brother of their big boss. It’s a mess right now in Mexico but you’re here for a bigger fish. Al Bashir.”
End.
