Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – 21:15
The convoy, of the local tactical police force, BOPE, alongside with eight of the Seal Team Six, call sign 'River', and an unusual four man team Delta Force, call sign 'Hunter', stopped by a roadblock of flaming piles of woods and tires. Gunshots can be heard faintly.
“We’ll walk from here,” said the team leader of the dispatched BOPE unit.
“Overlord, this is Hunter One,” said Lead on the radio, “We’re on foot. No contacts yet but we could use an eye up there. We’re hearing some gunshots, over.”
“Copy that Hunter one,” Overlord responded, “No signs of any hostiles moving in your area. You’re all clear, over.”
“Alright,” said Lead, “NVGs up. This is better than we expected but stay sharp.”
Hunters tactically lined up and walked at the side of the road. Two seals follow them and the rest walked on the opposite side. BOPEs walk in the middle of the road with their flashlights on.
“I’m not sure we need them,” said Rojas.
“They’re flashing lights all over the place,” said River One, “What’s with these guys?” River one signalled the BOPEs turn off their lights but none responded.
“Well,” said Happy, “We’re supposed to kick at the front door after all.”
“I got movement,” said Alex. He can see someone with a phone on a balcony not far from them. “On the balcony one o’clock. I’m marking him.” Alex directs the infrared target pointer attached from his gun to the guy.
“Is he filming us?” said River One.
The guy puts his phone down and picks something up. Alex is still pointing at him.
“He’s picking something up,” said Alex, “It’s not a gun. It’s like a-” Before even finishing his sentence the guy places the thing before his eyes and freaked out. Alex realizes it is a night vision. The guy rushed out of their sight. “We’re compromised.”
“As expected,” said Rojas.
The guy appears back at the balcony seemingly with assault rifle.
“Guns hot,” said Lead, “Take him out.”
Two shots echoed, “He’s down,” said Alex after dropping the guy down.
“Hunter this is Overlord,” they heard from the radio, “Be advised, there are movements converging at your location from west and north.”
Gunshots came from ahead of them. Everyone takes cover and fires back.
“Their flanking our right!” said Lead.
They also started to take shots from their right. BOPE units tried to push forward, taking cover every time an enemy burst fires.
“Their pushing forward!” yelled Lead, “Move! Move! Move!”
“We can’t let this take time,” said Rojas.
BOPE unit leader approached Lead, “This is not good, my friend.”
“I know,” said Lead as he fires back. Suddenly they started hearing buzzing sounds then something hitting the walls and ground near them, “Take cover, damn it!” Lead dragged the BOPE leader down.
“We’re getting pinned down here,” River One said over the radio. He’s with five other seals and several BOPEs on the other side of the road.
“These NVGs doesn’t actually help,” said Rojas. BOPE unit leader looked at Rojas in disbelief, “What?” Rojas said to him shrugging.
Lead knows what Rojas is talking about. “I’m not sure were allowed to use those,” said Lead.
“But did you bring yours?” Rojas asked.
“Hell, yeah,” said Lead.
“Alright, hunters,” said Rojas, “ARs up.”
They removed their night vision goggles. Rojas tossed his to the BOPE unit leader. The unit leader attaches it on his helmet.
The BOPE unit leader peaks to the road ahead of them while using Rojas's night vision goggles. He saw laser like lights going back and forth, “There’s nothing wrong with your night vision.”
“I didn’t say there’s anything wrong with it,” said Rojas while wearing their usual augmented reality glasses, “I’m just saying we have a whole lot better eyepiece.”
“Sensors out!” Alex said as he tosses several sensors on enemy locations.
Rojas slings back his assault rifle and reaches for his high caliber sniper rifle, “Let’s do this shall we,” he said as he starts dropping enemy personnel one by one even behind covers.
“Good Lord,” said Happy as he saw how many enemies there are, “Alex, let’s start on those one pinning our friends.”
“On it,” said Alex as he switches for his armor piercing rounds. He started shooting at a brick wall just above the position of the seals on the other side. “He’s down.”
One of the seals that followed them saw what Alex did, “I don’t see any hostile doing 'Spider-Man' thing up that wall.”
“Yes cause he’s behind it,” said Happy as he looks at the seal. “Are you?” he said as he suddenly recognize the face of the seal, “Are you the 2016 Andrews at Mosul?”
The seal looked at Happy surprised, “Yes sir,” he looked at Happy but his face is covered.
“Well I’m the 2016 Goodman at Mosul,” said Happy.
The seal snapped, “Oh, you’re the 'Happy' guy their talking about!” he said, “I heard a lot about you since then, Sir.”
Alex stopped shooting for a moment and looks at Happy.
“What?” Happy said, “I told you I know these guys.” They continued firing.
“Wait,” said the seal, “you shoot through walls?”
“Armor piercing does the job,” said Alex, “And those are just brick walls not pure cement.”
“No I mean how can you see them?” asked the seal. He looks at their glasses, “Those aren’t your NVGs. Is that how?”
“Yup,” said Alex, “You plan on helping, or what?” he continues taking out enemies.
“How does that work?” asked the seal.
“Ugh,” said Alex irritated, “You play 'CS:GO'?”
“Yeah,” said the seal.
“It’s like the wall hack,” said Alex.
“Coooooool, cool cool cool,” said the seal in awe, “Where do you-” the seal stopped upon noticing Alex leave his position.
“He’s not much of a talker,” said Happy. “Alex, what do we talk about being friendly?” he continues firing.
“No it's fine,” the seal grin, “Where do you got those, Sir? Why don’t we have that glasses.”
“Well , for all I know they only made four of these,” said Happy, “And we’re basically breaking our protocols for using this with your presence. It’s like our secret stuff.” The seal slowly nods in awe, “Can I ask you something, 2016 Andrews?” Happy ran out of ammo and needs to reload.
“Fire away,” said the seal.
“How does your gun work?” Happy asked.
The seal looks at his gun in confusion, “I – It’s just a regular M4, sir. You pull the trigger then fire away.”
“Oh,” Happy smirked as he finished reloading his gun, “I thought it works by talking.” Happy laughs.
The seal nods while smiling, “Oh, yeah, work.” He fires.
Not long after, the firefight ceases. BOPE units start to fill the road again.
“That’s helluva welcome home party,” said Rojas.
Moving on, they walk through an alley. Houses on top of each other are slowly showing more civilians. Hunters lead the way. They’re being followed by the Seals. BOPE units guard their rear.
“Two guys on the roof,” said River Three, “Possible militia.”
“They have a gun?” asked River One.
“Negative.”
“Hold you fire,” said River One, “Do not engage unless you see a gun.”
“Kids on the balcony,” said Rojas.
“Shouldn’t they be asleep?” said Happy.
“Contact,” said Alex as he saw someone ran through the alley intersection ahead of them.
Lead signalled to stop “Hunter Three, deploy sensor.”
Alex threw a sensor, “Deploying sensor.”
“It’s just a kid,” said Lead. They slowly head to the intersection branching yet to another alleyway.
“Clear left,” said Rojas. As he walk past the small intersection.
“Clear right,” said Alex.
“I hate this,” said Happy, “A lot of people are staring at us.”
The only way ahead is to the left. Lead checks on his map.
“Eyes open,” said Lead, “We’re supposed to take right by the end of this alleyway.”
“They blocked the path to the right with a wooden wall,” said Rojas.
“Won’t the intersection we walked past would also take us there if we go right?” Asked Happy.
“Negatory,” said Lead, “That leads to a dead end.”
As they approach the end of the alleyway, Lead signalled to stop, “Clear left,” he said as he signalled Rojas and Alex to watch the left path.
Alex and Rojas immediately positions themselves guarding the left path. It’s another alleyway that leads to a dead end not far enough. Happy joined Lead figuring out what to do with the wooden wall. Seals lined up behind them.
BOPE unit leader approaches Lead, “We’re falling back now,” he said to Lead, “We’ll have a hard time going out here if we went deeper.”
“I understand,” said Lead, “Thanks for your help. Good luck out there”
