Capitol Skyline Hotel – 09:40
Upon hearing the story of the President, the team requested to help. At this point Alex knew that the Samantha whom he met in his place turns out to be the daughter of the President herself, Samantha Pierce. Not long after the President went back to the White House, they received a briefing on their pads.
“Listen up, Hunters,” said Overlord, “This might not be what you think this is but I’m sure you can handle this.”
“We can handle Alex, so we can definitely handle a kid like her,” said Happy.
“It’s not what you’re thinking, Hunter Four, she’s not just missing,” said Overlord, “Yesterday, noontime, the presidential guards have been following the President’s daughter going south. Unfortunately, after an hour they had to go back because their helo's running out of gas. But the daughter, codename Athena, is riding a trackable vehicle and possibly in possession of her cellphone.”
“No one ever gets lost at this point in time,” said Rojas.
“But the girl is clever,” Overlord continues, “Her last known location is in Ruther Glen. By the time the Presidential Guards went there she’s gone. She’s seen at the McDonald’s branch there throwing her phone in the trashbin. They’ve positively recovered her personal phone.”
“I hope my daughter won’t grow up throwing three hundred dollar things in the trashbin,” said Happy.
“Not only that,” Overlord continues, “She traded her custom built 2018 BMW M5 for a second hand 2004 Honda Accord in an auto shop just beside the fast food chain.”
“Custom built, you mean?” Rojas Asked, “And why would the Auto Shop accept something like that? Won’t they suspect anything odd?”
“I would accept that if I won’t pay her,” said Happy.
“It’s bulletproof and has a built-in emergency distress beacon made exclusively for the First Family. In this case, her,” Overlord said, “She had papers and because the girl is smart enough she talked it out with the auto shop owner. Plus, he had no clue of her being the President’s daughter despite having the surname Pierce. It’s understandable because, as much as possible, the President has been making sure her only daughter wouldn’t be on the spotlight to protect her privacy. Her last known appearance on the public was when the President was still a Governor and she’s only nine.”
“That’s why,” Alex sighed.
“Now this is the part I was saying you won’t expect,” Overlord said.
“Try us, Overlord,” said Rojas.
“As the Presidential Guards interview the auto shop owner,” Overlord continues, “They we’re told that Athena made a call. Coincidentally, the Feds tracked a familiar voice making a call.”
“Well at least someone knew her voice,” said Happy.
“It wasn’t her voice that caught their attention,” said Overlord, “The moment they’re eavesdropping on that certain call they didn’t knew it was the voice of Athena. They didn’t even know she’s missing. What they know is who’s on the other end of the line.”
“Oh, ‘coincidentally’. I missed you said that,” said Happy.
“It was Daniel Suarez,” said Overlord, “A Mexican mob they’ve been hunting down for four years. He fled Mexico when things go south either with the Mormons or the other drug cartels. He went in Brazil where he left his family and sneaked into our country where he disappeared.”
“The irony,” said Rojas while shaking his head.
“Why would he go here?” asked Alex.
“Well, the cartels at the border,” said Rojas, “They sell drugs in our country and we sell guns to them. Technically we aren’t the 'we' there but that’s, figuratively, what’s been happening down there.”
“On point,” Overlord agreed, “The Feds tracked the caller on Ruther Glen and tracked Daniel in Virginia Beach,” Overlord continues, “They decided not to deploy any personnel immediately because they don’t want the guy to get spooked. One wrong move and they believe this bastard will be out of their radar again. So they planned a surveillance operation. Curious on what the call is about, they checked Ruther Glen where they crossed paths with the Presidential Guards. They shared intels at that point. Had they knew about Athena they would’ve went straight in Daniel's location. But by the time they both got there, the bastard’s gone with Athena nowhere to be seen. End of the line for them.”
“Now that’s a situation,” Lead said in disappointment on what happened.
“This is bad,” said Alex. He’s so concerned.
“This is definitely the situation where we get involved,” Rojas said shaking his head.
“Where do we start searching?” said Happy.
“We won’t do a search,” Overlord took a pause before continuing, “I don’t know if you’re all up to this but this is the only option we have right now.”
“We’re up,” said Alex.
“Yup, you don’t have to say,” Happy agreed, “Plus, we’re with him.”
“Good,” said Overlord, “You’re going to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The favelas are heavily populated, both by civilians and gangs, so stealth is not an option. You’re kicking at the front door.”
“Right,” said Rojas, “I miss the guns blazing ops.”
“Watch your shots,” Overlord said, “There shouldn’t be any civilian casualties. Insertion would be on foot. We don’t want another Mogadishu.”
“What about technicals,” asked Alex, “Humvees or any APCs?”
“You haven’t been there, I see,” said Rojas, “The place's a maze. And the gangs often make roadblocks so that the police would have a hard time navigating there.”
“He grew up there, Alex,” said Happy.
“How bad is Rio?” Alex asked Rojas.
“Well, the beach is full of tourists,” Rojas said, “But not a klick away are the favelas. And you ask me how bad? It’s Mosul kind of bad.”
“Ugh,” Alex said in disbelief.
“That’s right,” agreed Overlord, “The situation’s not good in Rio. Especially not these days. Police standoffs usually happen for hours. That’s why you’ll be operating side by side with the Seal Team Six.”
“You’ll know it’s bad when we need those guys,” said Lead, “Guess we’ll be the 'D boys' again.”
“The local tactical police force called BOPE won’t have any idea of who you’re extracting and what is the nature of the operation,” said Overlord, “We took care about that with the Brazilian Government. But they’ll be your tour guide for as long as they want to. These guys will fall back halfway or it will be hard for them to go out.”
“And add those guys,” said Rojas, “That’s how bad it is.”
“Your targets, Manuela Suarez, Daniel's wife. Martina and Manuel, their ten and eight year old daughter and son,” Overlord said, “I’ll send you their known location, your possible route, and the LZ for exfil.”
“So we’re going to fly after all,” said Rojas.
“It’s high risk but we can’t afford to lose any of the targets if you fight your way out on foot,” said Overlord, “The exfil unit would consist of three helos from the 24th Special Tactics Squadron of the AFSOC. Two will pick you all up and the other one would go on a holding pattern for air support in the duration of the exfil.”
“That’ll be the hardest part,” said Happy.
“The duration of the whole op should only take thirty minutes,” said Overlord, “You may encounter problems that would take too much of your time but move fast as much as you can. There’s a high possibility that the targets will be in the known location because civilians tend to stay inside their homes in case of a firefight. Plus it’s late night.”
“What if they’re not there?” said Alex.
“If you can’t find them and you past an hour go directly to the exfil,” said Overlord, “But we sure hope that’s not gonna happen or we’ll lose Athena.”
“So we’re basically kidnapping innocent civilians,” said Rojas.
“Yes,” Overlord agreed, “That’s why you’re not allowed, in any circumstance, to hurt them. We’re only doing this for that bastard to resurface and bring Athena back. Daniel might sell Athena to other mobs which we might not have a leverage against with, so time is of essence. Athena’s the only family the President's got so let’s do everything we can to make sure we get her back.”
“That’s real bad,” said Alex worriedly.
“All units involved, other than the BOPE, would be called Task Force Athena,” said Overlord, “They’ll still be helping you out until we got the precious package back to the White House. So be sure to be friendly with your new comrades.”
“We’ll at least the being friendly part is gonna be easy,” said Happy, “I know a lot of guys from those units.”
“That’s great,” said Overlord, “We’ll pick you up in half an hour.”
