Ruther Glen, Virginia – 12:35
After more than an hour of drive Samantha notices the helicopter that’s been following her is gone. She stopped by in a fast food restaurant.
“Oh God, I’m starving,” she sighs as she enter the fast food.
While eating she noticed something in her pocket. She put it out. It’s her phone, “That’s why,” she immediately finished eating and threw her phone in a garbage bin.
Samantha went out and got back in her car. She sat for a second thinking about something. She reaches for her dashboard compartment and picks up a heart shaped locket necklace.
She took a deep breath and opened the locket, “Mom,” she sighed. She wears the necklace and decided to turn up the car radio.
She stopped immediately before turning it on, “No, that’s why,” she snapped and looked around her. Just beside the fast food restaurant she saw a signage, “Elliot’s Auto Sales, perfect,” she smiled. She went out of her car and head for the shop.
As soon as she enters, an old guy greeted her, “What brings a young lady in my shop?” he smiled.
Samantha smiled back, “I’m looking for any car you’re selling.”
“Come with me,” said the old guy. They went out and head for the cars, “These are used cars but they’ll still bring you to your destination,” he laughed.
Samantha looked at the cars, “How much for the brown one?”
“That’s Honda Accord 2004 model hmm,” the old guy took a pause, “Well, for you that’s fifteen grand. Negotiable,” he smiled.
“Uhm,” Samantha smiled hesitantly, “what about a trade?”
The old guy shrugged his shoulders, “Why not?”
“The silver one there. That’s my car,” she pointed at her parked car by the fast food restaurant.
The old guy gazed in awe at Samantha’s car, “That’s- tha-” he stuttered.
“That’s 2018 M5,” she said.
“I’m afraid I can’t, young lady. That costs almost five times more than this one.”
“You can keep the change,” Samantha smiled but the old guy’s still looks hesitant, “I get it. Don’t worry it’s really mine, I have papers.” She looked at the old guy. He seems to be a little convinced, “Plus, this car reminds me of my mom.” She opens her locket and showed an old picture of her and her mom, “She owns a car back then just like this one, so.” Samantha smiled trying to convince the old guy.
“Well, if that’s the case,” the old guy smiled, “I wouldn’t say no to a BMW. That boy can run a hundred and fifty.” He laughed.
“Thanks mom,” she whispered smiling.
“Let’s take care of the papers, shall we?”
“And one more thing,” Samantha said, “You have a payphone? I need to call someone.”
“Yes, it’s inside. Well, technically I owe you a lot so call all you want.” They both laughed.
Virginia Beach – 12:55
In a not so crowded part of the beach there’s this guy doing something in a speedboat. A kid rushes to the guy.
“Jeeeeeeeeff!” he screamed.
Bothered, the guy responded, “I’m still working, Nathan,” he said.
The kid jumped inside the boat, “You’re still working on this crap, brother?” the kid said with disgust.
“I got it working, little guy,” Jeff proudly said, “I’m just replacing these worn seats.” He looked at the kid, “What’s up?”
“Your princess is going to visit,” Nathan smiles.
“You mean Samantha?” Jeff thinks Nathan is just joking around, “I got no time for jokes, brother.”
“It’s true! She’s looking for you, actually,” Nathan makes a serious face. Jeff knew that if he’s lying, he’d try to hide his laugh and he’s bad at it so somehow Jeff is convinced.
“What does she said exactly? You might’ve mistaken understanding her.”
“Maybe I would. But uncle Daniel is the one who talked to her. He said she immediately hang up. She’s in a hurry. And she’s two hour drive away.”
“Okay then,” upon hearing that he’s convinced, “Let’s just wait for her.”
“Oh,” Nathan suddenly remembered something, “And uncle Daniel said he’s got a job for you later so finish up what you’re doing now.”
“Then don’t bother me now so I can finish this.”
Ronald Reagan Washington Nat’l Airport - Day Five of the Break – 06:22
Alex approaches his team on the waiting area.
“You’re late, rookie,” said Rojas smiling.
“You’re all early,” Alex responded.
“We could just walk it from here, Lead” Happy suggested.
“Negatory,” said Lead, “They strictly told me they’d pick us up.”
“We know the hotel, we obviously know where the president is, I mean, what’s with them right now?” Rojas said, “They’d make us navigate our way in places we don’t know.” He laughed.
“I wonder the same way, Sir,” Alex said to Lead.
“Seriously?” Lead asked the three as if they should’ve known why, “The Pentagon is just right around the corner but they’d make us stay in a three star hotel. We’re classified for almost every uniform personnel in the Pentagon and in the Capitol. That’s why the president himself will be in our hotel suite before we got there.”
The three are shocked.
“We’ll be roommates with the President?” Rojas asked.
“Well, at least for the duration of the meeting,” said Lead, “His presidential guards and only the SecDef knows he’s gonna be there.”
“Why don’t they just make us pretend like we’re ‘D’ boys? Like we always do in the camps,” said Happy.
“Other people without clearance in Pentagon might still know who’s Delta or not,” Lead replied.
“Or a phone call maybe,” said Alex, “I mean if the President is making the call they sure will secure the line, right.”
“Or that,” agreed Lead.
“Then why?” asked Rojas.
“I'm afraid this is a very important matter for the President,” said Lead.
Capitol Skyline Hotel – 7:32
The Hunters gave a salute to the President.
“At ease, gentleman,” said the President. He let them seat.
“What’s the matter, Mr. President?” asked Lead.
“I just kind of want to talk to you guys in person. Call me old fashioned,” Simon gazed at the four smiling, “Is this half of the team?”
“This is all of us, Sir,” Rojas replied with a grin.
“Wow,” Simon said in awe.
“But I assure you, Sir,” said Lead, “We’re more than enough to take any of the problems off your chest.” They all laughed.
“Well then, let’s start,” Simon said, “Langley told me about your last Op. What you did. Why you think it’s the right thing to do. And what could be the consequences.”
The four looked serious.
“I requested to ask you personally because you are the guys out there taking the bullets for us. I believe there are things you can see that we back here cannot.” Simon looked at them in the eyes, “Although, I didn’t expect it to be this tight. I mean, I was expecting it’d be in the Capitol building or the Pentagon. If not in the White House.” He smiled.
“Although this one is a little more cozy,” said Happy.
“So in my opinion, you’re the ones who know what’s really going on out there,” Simon continued.
“You’re right about that, Sir,” said Lead. “The thing is about the CIA they only see the map. We don’t know if Al Bashir is in Iraq or Afghanistan. But if you look at the map you’d be tempted to look at Iran. Langley’s got some issues gathering enough intel so they’re just going blindly. I'm afraid there’s a lot more consequences if we start a war than taking our time pinpointing the bastard’s exact location.”
“I personally want to blow things up, Sir,” Happy said, “But if Iran’s the case, we might as well blow up Russia or China and end up with the same thing.”
“A war, Sir,” said Rojas, “But in this case, one can say that it’s possible this would only affect the Middle East. And trust me Sir, it could be a normal thing in that place, but a war with this scale could erase the entire region.”
“Get us out there, we can start a war,” said Lead, “The hell, we can take on an entire country and win. Point it in the map, and we can level the whole place.”
“You folks back here can easily watch,” said Rojas, “Continue with your own business after we won. But the guys like us, Sir. We bring with ourselves back home the images of war. Collateral damage, comrades we lost, innocent children dying in front of us, families displaced with nothing to eat, and the thought of one thing we could’ve done to prevent all of those from happening.”
Simon took a deep breath. He was enthralled with what the guys in front of him are saying, “Well,” he said, “I’m glad I requested this meeting. You sure are exceptional people.” He smiled.
“We’re honored to hear that from you, Mr. President,” said Lead.
Simon gazed at Alex, “And you have this young one.”
“He always gets in our way,” joked Happy. Everyone laughed, “Just kidding, Sir. But you’re looking at the future of the Hunter Recon unit. Honestly, I’m quite impressed with this kid.”
Simon smiled at Alex, “Aren’t you too young? I swear you could be my son.” Then he suddenly changed mood. He remembered her daughter, Samantha. His men has been looking for her since she left yesterday.
The four immediately noticed that there’s something bothering the President.
“Is there any problem, Mr. President?” Alex asked.
“It’s,” Simon shrugged, “It’s nothing.” He tried to smile but the worry in his eyes won’t go off.
“Sir,” Lead said concerned.
